Hello world!

Self-portrait by astronaut Michael Fossum, via APOD.
Welcome to our blog! We are students and faculty at the University of Denver, working together in a course about astrophysical radiation. This blog is our experiment with blogging as a way to participate in the astronomical community, talk about science with a broader audience, and practice writing regularly. We'll discuss grad student life, recent astronomical results, science and culture, and whatever else strikes our fancy. Please join the discussion in the comments!

Students, please introduce yourselves as you begin posting. For a rough guideline to how your posts will be assessed, check out this post from a colleague of mine on his course blog from 2011: On Points and Posts. I like his 5-point rubric, and his intro paragraph is worth quoting as a motto for all of us:
Introduce yourself to the class, muse about something astronomical, ask a dumb question and try to answer it. Whatever you do, start writing and then continue writing. (emphasis mine)
So here's your platform: run with it! I can't wait to see what this turns into.
